2 Million Man Hours

Dyer and Butler has cemented its health and safety reputation by reaching a milestone of two million man hours without a reportable accident.

With nine regional offices, we put health and safety at the top of our agenda and we are proud to report such a superb performance with a company wide zero accident frequency rate.

Dyer and Butler’s Safety Health Environment and Quality manager, Steve Broom, said: "Considering the range of projects that have been completed, many of which are in hazardous environments, or undertaken during the night, it’s a considerable achievement to pass two million hours without a reportable accident."

The hours have been clocked up since February 2008 averaging 506 directly employed personnel, 140 sub contractors, 59 sub contract labourers, covering over 115 projects. We credit our success to a cultural approach rather than procedural driven safety.

"Our accredited management systems are comparable with most other companies but the extra mile is reached through excellent communication between management which is translated through workforce commitment," concluded Mr Broom.

Dyer and Butler operate a behavioural safety programme, which is reinforced by mandatory five day safety training for all managers and supervisors, this is coupled with a dedicated safety management team which carry out site inspections to ensure that the winning formula is perfected.

We can now add this accolade to our recent success at the prestigious RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards in which we were awarded a total of three gold awards.

David Rawlins, RoSPA awards manager said: "Dyer & Butler has shown a commitment to protecting the health and wellbeing of its employees and others. We hope other businesses and organisations will follow its lead and strive for continuous improvement and safety management."
