Dyer and Butler Industry Placement Students Gain Top Award

Steve Withers and Dan Parks third year civil engineering students at Plymouth University were both awarded prizes at the recent CECA South West annual lunch for the best Civil Engineering Student on industrial placement.

Both students were employed by regional contractor Dyer and Butler based just outside Plymouth. Greg Adamiw regional manager said “we are delighted for both Steve and Dan and feel their prizes were well deserved. It speaks volumes for our approach to student placements and look forward to them joining us when their studies are complete”

A short list was drawn up by the university and the winner selected by Brian Everard, Executive Director CECA South West and Paul Santer Chairman CECA South West.

Paul Santer commented “I was particularly impressed with both candidates and as such found it impossible to separate them. They relished the challenge of their placements, showed considerable initiative in light of their limited previous experience and in the way they communicate all this in their industrial placement reports. I shall monitor their future progress with Dyer and Butler with great interest.”

In addition Steve Withers was given the most promising trainee Civil Engineer 2008 special recognition award.
