Dyer & Butler trials green innovation

Back to all

In our commitment to developing sustainable solutions to protect our planet, Dyer & Butler has introduced innovative green power packs to our Heathrow contract.

Working to reduce the amount of petrol used to power tools across the site, our Reactive Night Team has been trialling a new 110-volt battery generator over the last three months.

Traditionally, fuel-driven combustion generators are the main power source in many locations of rural working. These generators emit greenhouse gases and reduce air quality.

Working with Instagrid Battery Generators and Sunbelt, who have supported our trial and testing, the battery generator has been successfully adopted by our teams.

Our colleagues have found the innovative solution lightweight in comparison to power sources and the technology has proved more user friendly, due to the reduction in noise and fumes compared to traditional petrol-powered tools.

A 16amp 110-volt plug can be used with the new technology, as well as the larger 32 amp, which saves cost on the hiring of another generator. When the trigger of the tool is released the battery generator stops emitting energy, unlike petrol generators, which are often left running.

This innovative solution has also reduced costs, as fuel and plant nappies are no longer required.

Teams can charge the new generator on site, using their van invertors, with charge from empty taking only three hours. With green credentials, the power packs are also 97% fully recyclable at the end of their working life.

Also on site, the team have been using the Armorgard Battery charging store, a walk-in container with automatic fire suppression, to charge all batteries including survey equipment and on-site tools.

Fitted with 32 plug sockets, all with a residual current device (RCD) protection system in place, the charging store provides one location for all tools on site to be charged.

The introduction of these new technologies continues our commitment to making our operations more sustainable to ensure a future of safer, greener services for clients and their customers.

Dyer & Butler is committed to reaching Net Zero by 2040. At M Group Services, we are passionate about protecting people and the planet in line with our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments.
