Dyer & Butler continues community spirit during Franklands Embankment works
Our Rail team has been giving back to the local community while completing the Franklands’ Embankment Phase 2 scheme in the south of England, on behalf of Network Rail.
Across our business, we’re proud to work together to create a lasting impact for our people, clients, community and the planet as we deliver essential infrastructure for life. As part of this commitment, we’ve created and taken part in several community initiatives close to the project.
Working with Hever C of E Primary School, we’ve revamped and donated the gatesman sheds from the project, to create a calm, quiet area within the school’s new sensory garden. Hever C of E Primary School has created the sensory garden to provide a space that allows the pupils a calm environment to relax and play in, particularly in supporting its special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) pupils.
Amy Fletcher, School Business Manager, said: “The sheds are in! The team were amazing at helping position and move anything else around. We are hugely grateful for the donations.”
Additional wood from our project has been used to create rain planters, which have been donated to the local community. The rain planters have been identified as a community priority by the Hassocks Community Organisation, as due to urbanisation, alongside heavier downpours, meaning the risk of flooding has become greater. By donating rain planters to local community groups and publicly accessible spaces, we hope that excessive rainfall will be captured, and its flow managed.
Rain planters also contribute to local biodiversity, environmental education, reducing local air pollution and improving the aesthetic of the areas view.
Our team also donated to the local Hassocks foodbank. We’re proud to have collected a range of items, including eggs, washing up liquid and even some Christmas selection boxes. The foodbank was grateful for our donation.
Steve Paice, Social Value Manager at Dyer & Butler, said: “ Across our business, we’re keen to find and create opportunities to support the communities in which we work. I’m incredibly proud of what the team have achieved to give back to local people close to the Franklands’ project and we hope that each of our donations in the area will together leave a lasting impact. ”
