Dyer & Butler recognised for commitment to collaboration at ICE South West Awards 2024
4th November 2024
We are proud to announce that we have seen success at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West Awards 2024.
Winning the ‘Collaboration’ Award recognises our work alongside Network Rail, West of England Authority and Bristol City Council, on the Portway Park and Ride Station.
Portway marks the first new train station in Bristol for 96 years. By improving access to Avonmouth and Temple Quarter Enterprise Zones, where 31,000 jobs are expected to be created in the coming years, Portland aims to support growth for Bristol and the wider region.
A trailblazer in rail construction, our team worked alongside our client and key stakeholders, to develop and utilise innovative design and delivery methodology. By using a trackside crane from the adjacent car park, we were able to lift precast concrete units into position in under five minutes, reducing disruption and increasing efficiency.
As part of our commitment to the community, throughout the project, materials from the local area were used, and by-products were reused in and around the station. We also worked closely with our partners to ensure disruption to local biodiversity was minimised, installing bat boxes to encourage wildlife and investing in station lighting that automatically dims out of hours.
Since opening last summer, more than 33,000 journeys have been made from the station, promoting public transport and reducing carbon.
We are delighted to have been recognised for this integral project and would like to extend our appreciation to our partners Network Rail, West of England Authority and Bristol City Council.
