RAF Odifam Floodlighting

29th March 2022

Back to all

This project comprised of the replacement of the two existing high mast floodlighting towers, head gear and electrical cabling and the installation of 3 new high mast floodlighting towers within an operational Royal Air Force base.

The high mast floodlighting installation for Charlie dispersal RAF Odiham serves the Chinook Apron and needed to be replaced in order to enhance the illumination levels and meet the recommendations and requirements as detailed within Regulatory Articles (RA) Series 3000.

This included the removal of the existing high mast installation and all associated electrical installations inclusive of all existing electrical service sub-main supplies, distribution switchgear, lighting controls, final circuits, redundant foundation pads and all high mast equipment prior to completion.

A new low voltage (LV) supply was installed from the local sub-station and a new feeder pillar to serve the power requirements of the new High Mast lighting installation.

Each lighting mast was assembled on site with a local control panel fitted out with new LV switchgear.

New foundation pads were constructed in accordance with the lighting mast manufacturers requirements and following the findings of a soil investigation report.

The project also included new ducted distribution routes trenched through and below hard-standing areas that were in use by Chinook aircraft and other RAF vehicles.
