Temple Quay Public Realm, Bristol

Back to all

The scheme consisted of infrastructure and public realm work constructed in advance of the development of a new hotel.

Works included bulk earthworks, drainage installations and connections up to 4m deep, construction of large engineered tree pits, carriageway construction, hard landscaping comprising the installation of natural stone and concrete products, street furniture, architectural seating, handrailing, CCTV and street lighting, tree planting and soft landscaping.

All traffic and pedestrian management was planned, installed and maintained by Dyer & Butler’s RASWA qualified operatives and supervisors.

A key challenge on this project was the logistics of managing deliveries and haulage wagons on a restricted site in the centre of Bristol, directly adjacent to a busy railway station, local shops and businesses.

A Materials Management Plan was developed to ensure all vehicle movements were planned and co-ordinated to avoid disruption and maximise efficiencies.

Using a local supply chain partner that we had used on previous projects (Projects Red and Blue), we were able to recycle 100% of surplus material generated by the scheme. This was achieved by sending several thousand tonnes of excavated waste for re-processing at their local recycling facility in Avonmouth, thereby diverting the material from landfill.

Due to the location of the site, we ensured regular contact with the station manager at Temple Quay, local shops and businesses through letter drops, face to face contact and regular progress meetings.
