DYER & BUTLER ACHIEVES MAJOR SAFETY MILESTONE

12th February 2018

Dyer & Butler has achieved a major safety milestone of two million man hours of work without a single reportable accident or incident.

The milestone was reached in February 2018 as the Dyer & Butler Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) for reportable accidents reached zero, meaning that no reportable accidents or incidents had taken place within the previous 12 month period.

During this period, approximately 2,500 individual close call reports were raised via the smartphone close call reporting. The highest recorded number of close call reports raised during any month was 334.

Over the past 12 months, Dyer & Butler has delivered a program of enhanced behavioural safety training designed to deliver improvements to its health and safety culture and overall performance. The introduction of its award winning ‘Close Call Reporting’ app also shifted the focus of Dyer & Butler’s safety reporting structure towards a more proactive model.

Dyer & Butler Managing Director Neil Edwards commented: “The achievement of a zero AFR is a significant safety milestone for the company which has only been achieved through the hard work, diligence and positive attitude of our employees.

“Whilst we should enjoy our success, we cannot afford to become complacent and must always maintain our belief that unsafe acts and conditions are unacceptable occurrences in any workplace.”

Dyer & Butler Safety, Sustainability and Training Director Steve Broom, commented: “Hazards, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions are always present within any workplace and it is often the case that the effects of these are not realised until an accident occurs. By refocusing our health and safety culture towards a more proactive direction, we have attempted to identify and correct the root cause of these events before a more serious outcome can occur.

“I congratulate each and every person that has contributed through their behavioural observation and close call reports as it is their effort that has made this achievement possible.”

“Further improvements and innovations are planned which continue to build on this success and we must continue to ensure that safety is at the heart of everything we do by ensuring that we continue to be “Safe by Choice…Not by Chance.”
