Dyer & Butler, a multi-disciplined engineering services specialist focused on transport infrastructure including airports, railways and highways, and part of M Group Services, has successfully completed a nine day blockade on behalf of Network Rail, as part of their ongoing works to platform extensions for stations in the Cotswolds.

Over the nine days blockade works (the closure of routes for an extended period)were planned across four station locations – Pershore, Evesham, Honeybourne & Moreton-in-Marsh. The blockade was granted on Saturday 17 November with a planned handback on Monday 26 November; however the team completed the work on Sunday 25 November, six hours ahead of programme.

Dyer & Butler were awarded the seven North Cotswold platform extension works back in June, and the works are due to run until February 2019. They include re-surfacing, drainage, realignment of copers, lighting, platform gauging, stop boards, SISS equipment and shelters.

Network Rail’s Route Delivery Director Paul Stanford commented: “The platform extension work at seven stations along the route is a vital part of our Railway Upgrade Plan and will improve the passenger experience for those who use these stations. The longer platforms are required to accommodate the new trains that have been introduced by GWR, which feature more seats and provide faster, more reliable journeys. I am proud of the efforts of all involved with the works to get them safely and swiftly delivered.”

Dyer & Butler Rail Director Chris Darlow adds: ‘The blockade at times proved to be challenging, with a number of changes encountered along the way. Despite these, the team remained determined and re-assessed, re-planned and delivered whilst ensuring safety remained at the forefront. The comradery amongst the Dyer & Butler team, supply chain and Network Rail team was great; there was a true air of a ‘one team approach’ with a fantastic level of collaboration between everyone.
