Dyer & Butler, a part of M Group Services’ Transport Division, has installed monitor screens into its welfare vans, to improve on-site communication for its people on site.

The screens, which have been installed on Dyer & Butlers Welsh rail contracts, have been used to give toolbox talks, safety briefings and Controller of Site Safety (COSS) briefings. The monitors can be easily set up, as they can be plugged into the welfare vans via the mains and then connected to either a laptop or tablet, to mirror a screen.

The screens, which have been installed into eight welfare vans so far, have received great reception by operatives, due to giving teams the ability to view scoping docs and photos of its sites on a larger screen before heading onto the railway.

Moving forward, Dyer & Butler is looking to increase the amount of welfare vans that are installed with monitor screens.

Speaking on the benefits of monitors in welfare vans, Nathan Thomas, Administrative Supervisor at Dyer & Butler, said: “The introduction of monitors in our welfare vans has brought about significant advantages. It has greatly enhanced on-site communication during toolbox talks, safety briefings, and COSS briefings.

“Individuals who learn best through visual aids can now view photos of the job or view the briefing itself via the monitors. This has led to improved understanding among operatives about the task they are about to undertake before even arriving at the site on the railway, as they can review the Scope document and associated images beforehand.”
