M Group Services’ Rail & Aviation Division, compromising of Dyer & Butler, Antagrade Electrical and KH Engineering Services has launched its new cultural safety programme ‘It Starts With Me.’

The programme is specifically designed to promote a positive culture where everyone is confident about making the right choices to deliver their work, in a way that supports the Division’s ‘Safer, Greener Rail and Aviation’ commitments.

Last week, the programme was officially launched with the first ‘It Starts With Me’ interactive workshops. Delivered by members of the Safety, Sustainability and Wellbeing team and the Division’s existing team of Front Line Coaches, the workshops offer an opportunity to introduce the programme.

The workshops have so far given attendees opportunities to explore the triggers relating to the way people behave and develop the basic skills needed to intervene when something doesn’t look and feel right. The workshops also provide a valuable opportunity to engage with the wider team and capture feedback that will be used to determine the future course of the programme.

More than 150 people have attended the interactive workshop sessions so far and further sessions are planned over the coming weeks, with the aim of engaging everyone in the Division by the end of the month. It is hoped that the programme will be cascaded through the Division’s supply chain partners, to ensure that a collective approach to improving safety culture is maintained.

Steve Broom, the Division’s Safety, Sustainability and Wellbeing Director, said: “When we all take responsibility for our own actions and take the time to understand each other’s perspectives and viewpoints, it enables us to come together and work more closely as a team so we can operate in an environment that is free from harm, injury, illness, damage and loss (both at work and outside of work).

“Our ‘It Starts With Me’ programme builds on our previous successes in this area and widens the scope of understanding amongst our people to influence how they can be more proactive in taking responsibility for their own actions, and the actions of others.

“This programme is not intended to focus solely on health and safety improvements, but on the behaviours that we want our people to exhibit when making the right choice to deliver any aspect of their work responsibly.”

The launch of the ‘It Starts With Me’ program is an exciting time for M Group Services’ Rail and Aviation Division.
