Supporting the Marine Conservation Society’s (MSC) Great British Beach Clean

8th November 2022

Back to all

Some of our Dyer & Butler team were beside the seaside recently, collecting an incredible 1,920 pieces of litter in two beach cleans as part of the Marine Conservation Society’s (MSC) Great British Beach Clean.

As part of our focus on biodiversity and conservation, our people joined two beach clean events in Southampton and Cardiff.

The Southampton team, at the Hook within Warsash Local Nature Reserve collected 14kgs of waste in two hours, an incredible 805 items including bottles, cotton bud sticks, polythene, pieces of metal and fishing net parts over a 500m stretch of coastline.

At Cardiff Bay Barrage, 12 volunteers from our Rail team, including a Network Rail project manager, collected eight bags of general waste and seven bags of recyclable materials. They gathered 1,115 items of litter on the beach over an area of 100m.

This is the third year Dyer & Butler has supported this event. Data collected by the Marine Conservation Society has helped influence the introduction of the plastic bag charge and the ban of microplastics in personal care products.

Our support for the Great British Beach Clean has tangible benefits for our local environments. Our people have helped to stop litter getting into our oceans and the data collected will support policy changes that support conservation of our marine environments. Volunteering in these events also provides social value to our local communities, part of our commitment to providing broader benefits to the communities in which we live and work.

Congratulations to everyone who took part and helped to clean up our beaches and seas.
